Can GCC Citizens Enter Saudi Arabia Without a Visa?
Yes, citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries can enter Saudi Arabia visa-free, using only their valid national ID card or passport issued by their respective GCC nation at Saudi immigration checkpoints.
Note: Only GCC citizens (passport holders) are exempt from visa requirements. Residents of GCC countries, even those with long-term residency permits or visas, must still obtain a visa to enter Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia's visa-free policy for GCC
Eligible Travelers
As per Saudi immigration regulations, GCC nationals are granted visa-free entry due to the regional agreement promoting free movement among member states.
Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries include:
- Bahrain
- Kuwait
- Oman
- Qatar
- The United Arab Emirates
Entry Purpose
Visa-free access applies to tourism, family visits, business meetings, or transit, provided that the traveler does not engage in paid work, apply for long-term residency, or undertake any employment-related activity.
However, for activities like employment or long-term residency, separate permits are required.
Duration
GCC citizens are typically granted permission to stay in Saudi Arabia for up to 90 days per visit, subject to the discretion of immigration officers upon entry.
Conditions
Travelers need to confirm that their ID or passport has a valid status and its expiration date is not approaching. Immigrants must undergo regular immigration procedures, which include security clearance to enter the country.
Exceptions
Saudi Arabia does not provide visa-free entry to GCC residency holders (non-citizens). All such residents must apply for an appropriate visa to enter Saudi Arabia, such as the GCC resident eVisa, depending on their nationality and occupation.
Since March 2023, GCC residents (those with a valid residence permit in GCC countries: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, UAE) can apply for a Saudi eVisa regardless of their nationality, even if their nationality is not on the list of countries eligible for the regular eVisa. Instead, the main criteria are:
- A valid GCC residence permit (at least 3 months).
- A passport valid for at least 6 months.
Tip
You need to bring your GCC national ID or passport as well as follow Saudi customs and entrance requirements to avoid travel issues.
Important Note
GCC citizens enjoy visa-free travel, but they should verify that no current travel restrictions or policy changes exist during peak periods or unexpected circumstances. Visa information can be checked through the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website, together with the nearest Saudi embassy.
